In simple terms, alkaline water is water that has a higher pH level than regular tap water. The pH scale measures how acidic or alkaline a substance is on a scale from 0 to 14.
Acidic: pH less than 7 (e.g., lemon juice, coffee, vinegar)
Neutral: pH of 7 (pure water)
Alkaline (or Basic): pH greater than 7
Regular drinking water typically has a neutral pH of 7. Alkaline water usually has a pH between 7.5 and 9.5.
It’s also often characterized by its alkalinity, which is its capacity to neutralize acids. This is typically due to the presence of alkaline minerals and negative oxidation-reduction potential (ORP). ORP measures the water’s antioxidant potential; a negative ORP means it can act as an antioxidant.
